Antique Victorian 18k Yellow Gold Black Enamel Mourning Hair Ring

Antique Victorian 18k Yellow Gold Black Enamel Mourning Hair Ring

$3,395.00Price

This is one of those pieces that stops you for a moment… and asks to be felt, not just seen.

An authentic early Victorian mourning ring, hallmarked London 1833, carrying within it a deeply personal story of love, loss, and remembrance. Crafted in rich 18ct yellow gold, the face centres around a glazed hair locket - a quiet, intimate relic of a life once lived - framed by a bold border of black enamel, the traditional symbol of mourning and eternal devotion. Intricate hand-engraved detailing flows across the shoulders, each curve and motif a testament to the craftsmanship of the era. These were not simply rings… they were keepsakes, worn close, carrying memory through generations. Inside the band, the story becomes even more profound. Hand engraved:

“The Life Of Esther Boyal Who Died 4th Mar 1838 Aged 35”

A name. A date. A life remembered. There is something incredibly moving about holding a piece like this - knowing it was created not just as jewellery, but as a vessel for grief, love, and connection. In a time before photographs were commonplace, these rings were among the most personal forms of remembrance. The gold has developed a soft, time-worn patina, beautifully preserved alongside the original enamel and engraving, a rare survival in such complete and heartfelt condition.
